About

Don WilsonI reside in Central Washington in the heart of the Pacific Northwest with my wife of many years.  Combined, we have more than a century of experience living in this part of the world.

My name is Don Wilson.  My wife, Leslie, and I have traveled to 35 of the 50 states.  Beyond the US, we’ve visited Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Sweden, Denmark, Russia, and India.  Our bucket list includes Australia, Japan, Guatemala, and Costa Rica, as well as the remaining US states to which we’ve not yet traveled.

Much of our travel is done with an air of frugality.  That means we take lots of short trips that are within driving distance for an extended weekend.  It’s a good thing there is so much to see and so much variety in the Pacific Northwest.  In all of our years, we have yet to see and experience all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer – but we’re working on it.

Several years ago, we purchased a share of ownership in a group of resorts.  A number of them are located right here in the Pacific Northwest.  To utilize our resorts, they only require that we book one of them using our allotment of points.  Basically, we have 2-3 weeks of 2 BR, 2 bath condo usage each year for the rest of our lives.  Since it’s already paid for, it makes it easier to schedule a trip and not worry about how much the hotel will set us back.

Our condo membership has been wonderful for providing us with landing places for vacations with our grown children and their families.  It has turned out to be one of the best investments I’ve ever made.

About WeekendWalkabout.com

I started this website to capture our memories and to share with the world so that maybe someone else will recognize that the Pacific Northwest has a whole lot to offer the traveler.  When you decide to come here on your next vacation, I hope that our website is a valuable reference for you to help you enjoy a most memorable trip for you and your family.

More than that, even, I hope that this blog will provide inspiration to our guests to explore the sights, events, and flavors in your own backyard.  We don’t want you to take for granted the beauty around you.  You don’t have to travel half way around the world to find God’s beautiful creation.  It’s all around you.
